I have been working on a family crest. I am pleased with this one. I followed Katy’s suggestion and included a Gaelic motto that I made up. It means Fighting the Hounds of Hell. We need someone who speaks Gaelic to tutor us in how to say it.

Copilot when through many changes with me on this. I forget the meaning of the heraldic symbols. I got Copilot to do one last thing: Explain the symbols.
Narrative Explanation of the Battle Family Crest
The Battle family crest is a visual testament to legacy, resilience, and the enduring spirit of those who stand firm in the face of adversity. Rooted in Irish heraldic tradition and personalized with biographical symbolism, the crest weaves together elements of faith, nature, and defiance.
At its center is a shield, the classic emblem of protection and identity. The upward-pointing green chevron evokes growth, ascent, and the strength found in unity. Flanking it are two golden fleur-de-lis, symbols of purity and nobility, while the gold cross above them anchors the design in spiritual conviction.
Beneath the chevron blooms a white trillium—delicate yet resilient—representing renewal, memory, and the natural cycles that shape a life. The trillium is cradled by crossed oak branches, each bearing golden acorns: a nod to endurance, legacy, and the quiet power of rootedness. These elements speak to the Battle family’s connection to land, season, and story.
The name BATTLE is inscribed boldly on a golden scroll, asserting identity with clarity and pride. Beneath it, the Irish motto Ag troid le Conairt Ifreann—“Fighting with the Hound of Hell”—curves gently in gold, echoing the scroll’s arc. This phrase, mythic and defiant, evokes the image of a guardian who does not flinch before darkness, who meets challenge with courage and conviction.
Together, these symbols form a crest that is both personal and universal—a banner for those who carry memory, meaning, and strength into the world.
Feel free to share this post as widely as possible. I think I am done with it.
